PROFILE
The Aquaculture and Fisheries Group has a characteristic Wageningen Profile . Its research and education is traditionally inspired by society and industry developments and is strongly internationally oriented. It attempts to apply an interdisciplinary, innovative approach to research and education, yet at the same time, it focuses on basic processes and general principles, rather than the immediate application. The AFI approach can best be described as "science driven, and market oriented".
POSITION
The Chair group "Aquaculture and Fisheries" (WU-code: AFI) is one of the 10 groups composing the Department of Animal Sciences of Wageningen University . The department belongs to the Animal Sciences Group (ASG) of Wageningen University and Research Centre (Wageningen UR). ASG combines all Wageningen UR expertise regarding animals, from zoology to livestock production and fisheries. Within ASG, the main market-oriented partner of "Aquaculture and Fisheries" is the Institute for Marine Resources and Ecosystem Studies (IMARES) .
EDUCATION
Within Wageningen University , the Aquaculture and Fisheries Group is responsible for academic teaching and research in the field of aquaculture and fisheries. It contributes to undergraduate teaching in the Bachelor of Science (BSc) Animal Sciences and provides key-education for the Master of Science (MSc) Aquaculture and Marine Resources Management ( MAM ). "Aquaculture and Fisheries" is also one of the "biological" chairs at WU, providing a graduation outlet for Biology students.
RESEARCH
Research of the Aquaculture and Fisheries Group focuses on the development of sustainable management practices for both fisheries and aquaculture. Research is organized according three levels of integration:

- Production system level
- Populations and aquatic ecosystems level
